Analysis target

Contact angles of different solvents on solid surfaces. Surface tensions liquids and surface free energies of surfaces.  

 

Sample prerequisites

All solid surfaces can be measured and polymer melts.  

 

Analysis characteristics

Contact angles can be applied to calculate surface free energies of solids. Determination of drop contours can be applied to determine the surface tension of liquids at varied temperatures. The instrument permits online measuring and film recording at room temperature and up to 350°C, enabling measurements on solids as well as polymer melts. 

 

Sample requirements

A solid smooth surface with a minimum surface area of at least 4cm2 depending on the required number of repetitions and solvents that should be tested. In the case of polymer melts the limitation is the temperature to obtain the melt and if it is possible to form a symmetrical drop of the polymer melt.
