Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

Instrument

TA Q1000 with autosampler, operates from -100°C to +300°C.

Analysis target

DSC records the thermal transitions of (especially) polymers and composite (plastic) materials.

Sample prerequisites

Solids and high boiling liquids that do not thermally degrade < 300°C.

Analysis characteristics

DSC records glass transition temperatures (Tg) for amorphous materials, and crystallization (Tc) as well as melting (Tm) temperatures for crystalline materials or semicrystalline polymers. Enthalpies of melting and crystallization can also be determined. Other thermal transitions like curing can in principle be determined.

Sample requirements

Minimum 5 mg necessary, however, >10 mg preferable if multiphase materials are investigated.
