Instruments
Two SEC systems are operating at room temperature eluting in either THF (System 1) or in water/methanol (System 2).
System 1: A Viscotek VE 2001 GPC Solvent/Sample Module equipped with a Viscotek TriSEC Model 302 Triple Detector Array (RI, Light scattering, Viscometer) and a Knauer UV Detector K-2501. The columns are a PL Guard and two PL gel mixed D columns from Polymer Laboratories; this column combination provides good resolution up to 300,000 Daltons and are calibrated with PS or PMMA narrow molecular weight standards.
System 2: A Shimadzu LC-10AD VP Liquid Chromatograph and a Shimadzu SIL-10AD VP Auto Injector equipped with a Viscotek 200 Detector (RI, Viscometer) and Shodex Asahipak GF-310 HQ and GF-510 HQ columns. The columns are calibrated with PEG narrow molecular weight standards.
Analysis target
SEC allows determination of molecular weights and molecular weight distributions (polydispersity) of soluble polymers.
Sample prerequisites
Sample should soluble in either THF or in water/methanol to a 1 wt-% solution at room temperature.
Sample requirements
5 mg.
