Instrument
TA Q500 equipped with autosampler.
Analysis target
TGA records the thermal (under N2 (g)) degradation as function of temperature as a sample weight loss. Sample prerequisites Any solid sample.
Analysis characteristics
The technique elucidates the faith of heating organic materials in an inert atmosphere up to 700°C. The thermal oxidative behavior can in principle be studied by running in normal air or even in O2. Useful in determination of organic materials like polymers adsorbed or covalently linked to metals or other highly thermally stable compounds like carbon nanotubes or inorganics e.g. nanoclays. TGA is also useful in calculation of block copolymer compositions when the blocks have significantly different thermal degradation temperatures.
Sample requirements
Preferably 10 mg (less will work)
